Project Overview

The Fitness and Aquatics Complex is one of the most popular amenities in Rossmoor, with over 200,000 participations each year. That number has grown annually and is on track to reach a quarter million in the next year. To better serve the community, the Board began studying the expansion and renewal of the Center. With the construction of the new Event Center in 2014, space previously dedicated to this use was reintegrated into the Complex as fitness space. In 2013, an Ad Hoc Task Force conducted a community-wide survey to determine the improvements residents most desired to better serve their needs.

In 2015, a project team led by The Sports Management Group with ELS Architecture and Urban Design completed an assessment of the facility and developed preliminary concept plans for a re-imagined and enlarged fitness center. Community input has been integral to the development of this plan. The project is now in the schematic design phase and additional community input is being solicited. The proposed renovation will offer much-needed enhancements, including four new studios, increased space for cardiovascular and strength training equipment, and greater space for a wide range of activities.

An Open House was held on April 5th in the Fitness Center Multipurpose Gym. Rossmoor residents previewed the proposed design plans and provided comments. The project is scheduled to begin construction in January 2017. Click on the timeline below to learn more.

On April 28, 2016, the schematic package was presented to the GRF Board. They approved the package and authorized the design team to continue into design development. The design development package will be presented to the Board in June.
